Today’s Featured Artist, Margaret Juul, has an incredible talent for capturing the beauty of water. Light bouncing off ripples, the curl of a crashing wave, a shell sitting just below the surface – Margaret captures these moments in large scale paintings. Now, she’s turned some of her paintings into surface designs, available here on WeaveUp! Read on to learn more about Margaret & shop her designs.

Where do you live?

I live in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. It is a thriving coastal community. Being surrounded by saltwater waterways is a constant voice of inspiration for me.

When did you begin designing surface prints?

Starting my education in commercial art, then getting my fine arts degree, and finally furthering my artistic goals by earning an additional 60 credit hours in interior design. I love the idea of incorporating everything I have learned to create textiles. WeaveUp makes it fun and easy for me. I have had many wonderful responses to my collections.

What inspires you?

After many years searching for my artistic voice, success has been furthered by focusing on the tones of the sea. Whether cool blue, soft greens or sunset tones, I look to my watery surroundings to spur the imagination.

Tell us about your workspace.

Over the years, I have worked as an interior designer and gallerist. For a time, I worked out of my own gallery. These days I prefer uninterrupted peace while I work. A loft studio in my home has been my refuge for the past few years.

How would you describe your signature design style?

My signature design styles have more of a global influence, tied in with bohemian coastal influences. Think California style.

What would you love to see your prints sewn into?

I look forward to seeing how other creative minds utilize my patterns and designs.
